In today’s post, I’ll be discussing luck and risk and where opportunity meets courage.
Everybody wants to be lucky. We want the right opportunity to show up at the right time. We want to meet the right person, land the right deal, discover the right idea, or receive that one phone call that changes everything.
But here’s the truth: luck often finds people who are willing to take risks.
You can’t control luck. You can’t force an opportunity to appear. But you can control whether you’re prepared when it does.
The people we call âluckyâ are often the ones who took a chance when everyone else was playing it safe.
They applied for the position even though they weren’t sure they would get it.
They started the business before they had everything figured out.
They invested in themselves when others thought they were crazy.
They moved, changed, started over, and stepped into unfamiliar territory.
And somewhere along the way, opportunity met their courage.

You Can’t Win a Game You Refuse to Play
There is always risk involved in growth.
Starting a business is risky.
Changing careers is risky.
Investing your money is risky.
Trusting yourself is risky.
But staying exactly where you are also comes with risk.
Sometimes the biggest risk isn’t trying and failing.
Sometimes the biggest risk is spending your entire life wondering what could have happened if you had tried.
Playing it safe may protect you from disappointment, but it can also protect you from extraordinary opportunities.
You have to decide which risk you’re willing to live with.
Luck Loves Movement
Opportunities rarely find people who never move.
You don’t have to know exactly how everything will work out before you take the first step. You just need enough courage to begin.
Make the call.
Submit the application.
Start the business.
Write the book.
Launch the idea.
Ask the question.
Take the trip.
Bet on yourself.
You may not get the result you expected, but every move teaches you something. Every risk gives you experience. Every failure provides information. And every attempt increases the possibility of discovering an opportunity you never would have found standing still.
The more you move, the more opportunities you create for luck to find you.
Take Calculated Risks
Taking risks doesn’t mean being reckless.
It means believing that growth requires you to occasionally step beyond what feels comfortable.
Do your research.
Prepare yourself.
Seek wise counsel.
Count the cost.
But don’t confuse preparation with procrastination.
There comes a point when you have to stop gathering information and start making decisions.
You will never have a guarantee.
You will never eliminate every possible risk.
And you will probably never feel completely ready.
That’s where courage comes in.
Your Luck May Be on the Other Side of the Risk
Maybe the opportunity you’ve been praying for is connected to a decision you’re afraid to make.
Maybe the breakthrough is on the other side of the conversation you keep avoiding.
Maybe the business you’ve dreamed about is waiting for you to finally begin.
Maybe your next chapter requires you to release your current comfort.
You don’t need to take every risk that comes your way. But don’t allow fear to make every decision for you.
Some risks will not work out.
That’s life.
But some risks will change your life forever.
The key is to understand that failure is not always the opposite of luck. Sometimes failure is simply part of the journey toward the opportunity you were meant to find.
So keep preparing.
Keep learning.
Keep showing up.
And when the right opportunity appears, don’t let fear convince you to stay where you are.
Take the calculated risk.
Because luck may be unpredictable, but one thing is certain:
You’ll never discover what’s possible if you never give yourself permission to try.
Sometimes, the luckiest thing you can do is simply have the courage to take the chance.
